So the ROM included with the Windows Phone 7 Developer Tools refresh that was launched this week (to get it up to speed with the final release of Visual Studio 2010) has already been unlocked and torn apart over on xda-developers, and as you might expect, there are quite a few changes and additions in here versus what we’ve seen in the previous release. The most notable change appears to be the inclusion of Office, but we’ve also got dialer and in-call user interfaces, call history, call notifications (using Windows Phone 7’s standard notification paradigm, of course), and a method for uninstalling apps. Clearly, we’re still a long way from going final with this thing — and fortunately, Microsoft has given itself basically the rest of the year to get it good and solid. Andele, ladies and gentlemen.

Gateway’s just launched two 15.6-inch laptops — the NV59C-H34E and the NV59C-H54E. Both of these Windows 7 Home Premium bad boys boast 1366 x 768 HD displays, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, and a 640GB SATA HDD. They also have Intel integrated graphics, HDMI, VGA and three USB 2.0 ports, plus Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, and Gigabit Ethernet LAN. So what is the difference between these two lookalikes? Unsurprisingly, it’s their CPUs. The NV59C-H34E packs a 2.13 GHz, Core i3 processor, and is available in silver and blue, while the NV59C-H54E (which sadly only comes in silver) boasts a 2.26GHz Core i5 CPU. These will be available on April 23rd in Japan, but you can already score Gateway’s Core i3 NV5933u in the U.S. right now.

The Apple iPad. The name is a killing word — more than a product — it’s a statement, an idea, and potentially a prime mover in the world of consumer electronics. Before iPad it was called the Apple Tablet, the Slate, Canvas, and a handful of other guesses — but what was little more than rumor and speculation for nearly ten years is now very much a reality. Announced on January 27th to a middling response, Apple has been readying itself for what could be the most significant product launch in its history; the making (or breaking) of an entirely new class of computer for the company. The iPad is something in between its monumental iPhone and wildly successful MacBook line — an usurper to the netbook throne, and possibly a sign of things to come for the entire personal computer market… if Apple delivers on its promises.

If you’ve been following the news about Microsoft’s reinvention of its mobile presence, Windows Phone 7 Series, chances are you heard about how the company’s developer-friendly emulator was… modified slightly by Dan Ardelean to expose a series of applications and hubs that you weren’t supposed to see yet. Microsoft was quite gracious about it, indicating it basically expected this would happen and simply reminded everyone that these newly discovered apps are far from complete. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the unlocked version of the OS, and we’ll spell out for you exactly how you can do the same to see it for yourself.

The tiles on the Start screen of the upcoming Windows Phone 7 Series is one of those features that we just can’t get enough of. Aside from the fact that they’re interchangeable and customizable, you’ve also got the mix of live Hubs in there that just make them all the more interesting. In the case of the Game Hub, this live tile is always connected to your Xbox LIVE profile, which allows for your LIVE Avatar to pop his or her head up every once in awhile, just to let you know they’re stuck in there.
